HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The public is invited to a 7 to 9 a.m. breakfast on Oct. 7 at Leiters’ Fine Catering, Inc., for a chance to hear from candidates for the Washington County Board of Education.
The event is sponsored by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Washington County League of Women Voters.
The Board of Education plays an important role in shaping the future of Washington County, officials of the sponsors noted. Board members establish policies and priorities for our public schools, oversee the school system’s budget, provide accountability for student achievement and make decisions that influence how students are prepared for their next steps after graduation.
For the business community, those decisions have an impact that extends well beyond the classroom. Today’s students are tomorrow’s workforce, entrepreneurs, business leaders and community members. A strong connection between education and the business community is essential to developing local talent, preparing students for career opportunities, and supporting Washington County’s long-term economic success.
This forum provides an opportunity to hear directly from Board of Education candidates about their priorities, perspectives, and approaches to topics impacting Washington County Public Schools. Attendees can gain a better understanding of the candidates and the responsibilities of the office before casting their ballots.
“We encourage Chamber members and community leaders to attend, stay informed and learn more about the individuals seeking to help shape the future of education in Washington County,” LWV and Chamber officials said.
Doors will open at 6:30 a.m., with breakfast starting at 7. Leiters’ catering is at 59 W. Washington St.
