GREENCASTLE – Greencastle area residents without electricity or heat are being invited to seek temporary relief at Rescue Hose Company No. 1, which has opened its fire station as a warming station due to the current power outage. The station, located at 842 S. Washington St. in Greencastle, is offering heat, shelter and device charging to those in need.
Company officials said the warming station is effective immediately and will remain open until further notice while utility crews work to restore power in the region. Residents may come to the station to warm up, rest and recharge phones or other essential electronic devices needed to contact family, employers or medical providers.
The service is being provided in partnership with local emergency management officials as a safety measure during sustained cold and periods of high electricity demand. Rescue Hose Company has previously been identified as a designated community warming site because of its central location and ability to remain operational during outages.
Community members are encouraged to check on neighbors, older adults and those with medical conditions who may be especially vulnerable to cold indoor temperatures. In an emergency, residents are urged to call 911 for immediate assistance.
