CHAMBERSBURG – The Chambersburg Police Department has issued a reminder to residents and visitors that riding bicycles or skateboards on sidewalks in the downtown area is strictly prohibited. The department emphasizes safety as its primary concern, noting the high volume of pedestrian traffic in the area.
According to local ordinance, the downtown area includes the region bounded by East and West King Street to the north, the Western Maryland Railroad tracks to the west, East and West Liberty Street to the south, and North and South Second Street to the east. This boundary also covers the adjacent sidewalks.
Police caution that customers exiting businesses have limited time to react to fast-moving bicycles or skateboards, increasing the risk of collisions. The department urges all riders to dismount and walk their wheels while in the downtown area.
Residents and visitors are asked to comply with these regulations to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
