CHAMBERSBURG – A 20-year-old Virginia man is in Franklin County Jail after allegedly driving to Pennsylvania to meet with a teen girl. Steven Lee Gordon Fleenor of Pound, Virginia, was apprehended by Chambersburg Police on March 21 after a report of suspicious electronic communication with a 14-year-old girl, according to police reports.
The incident unfolded when concerned parents alerted authorities about an adult male engaging in online conversations over SnapChat with their child, apparently intending to arrange a meeting, reports indicated. Police officers were dispatched to a Target in the 900 block of Norland Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m. that day. The teen had gone there after school allegedly to meet Fleenor, reports indicated.
As law enforcement monitored the area, Fleenor arrived at the scene. Investigators determined that the suspect had driven from Virginia with the alleged intention of making contact with the girl.
Following an investigation, Fleenor was taken into custody. He now faces charges of criminal attempt of unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors and has not been able to post bail.
Under Pennsylvania law, unlawful contact with a minor is a serious offense that does not require physical contact to occur. The mere act of communicating with a minor for prohibited purposes can result in criminal charges, according to police.
As the legal process unfolds, authorities urge parents to remain vigilant about their children’s online activities and report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement immediately.
