CHAMBERSBURG– Due to the overwhelming generosity of area residents, the used book sale that took place in October raised $20,000. The funds will be used to purchase building materials for the next Habitat house in Franklin County. Patriot Federal Credit Union sponsored the event and made their branch locations open for donations. The community dropped off over 30,000 items for the sale including books, puzzles, games, and music. St. John’s UCC hosted the sale by providing space and volunteers. Additionally, Thrivent Financial contributed funds toward advertising the sale. Mark Story, Executive Director, notes, “Central to our mission is ‘bringing people together’ and the used book sale is a great example of what can be accomplished when people purposefully work together. I especially thank the leadership at St. John’s for their intentionality in engaging our local community to the benefit of future Habitat homeowners.” Leftover items from the sale were donated to other area nonprofit organizations. The next sale is planned for Oct 25-27, 2024.
