GREENCASTLE – Thousands of residents and visitors filled the streets of Greencastle on Friday, Aug. 8, to celebrate the annual Old Home Week parade, a cherished tradition showcasing community spirit and local pride.
The procession began at 2 p.m. on Leitersburg Pike, winding through Washington Street, Franklin Street, Carlisle Street, Walter Avenue and concluding on Allison Street. Spectators cheered as vibrant floats, marching bands and local organizations brought the route to life during the nearly two-hour event.
A highlight of the parade was a Tri Rex, an eye-catching dinosaur figure, driving a car, delighting children and adults alike. The Greencastle Girls Softball team and the high school football team also marched, drawing enthusiastic support from the crowd.
Local fire companies, including Rescue Hose Fire Company, participated with pride, showcasing one of the oldest fire trucks in the country, a historic gem from Greencastle’s firefighting heritage. Neighboring fire companies joined, adding to the display of regional camaraderie.
The event, part of Greencastle’s Old Home Week festivities, celebrated the town’s history and community unity, leaving attendees with memories of a vibrant, joyful afternoon.
