Bubba came by to visit me the other morning.
I haven’t seen my good ‘imaginary friend’ in a while and we were looking forward to a hot cup of coffee and some of the raspberry pie I had baked recently; our conversation, too, is a just ‘dessert’.
Are you wondering where I get my raspberries? I always keep a winter supply in my fridg from Litton farms each year and that way I can have a berry pie all winter; but my supplies are now exhausted.
I’m anticipating already the June crop of berries.
As Bubba got his bowl, he soon lathered some ‘whip cream’ across the top of the pie, and grabbed his coffee cup and headed for the living room’s easy chair: I followed and joined him in front of the fireplace.
Well Bubba, I said, “how do you like today’s current events.”
“They’re more than a little crazy” said Bubba and continued.
“Sometimes Dargan Boy, I have to wonder about our government. I’ve read at least three stories on how criminals are illegally taking monies from Uncle Sam:
– One large case of fraud is fromthe “Feeding Our Future” child nutrition scheme, from which an estimated $250 million was stolen from the government by those in the state of Minnesota; other allocated funds are under investigation too:”
– In a second incident, a Florida man and woman were sentenced for their roles in a wide-ranging conspiracy to defraud Medicare by billing over $93 million for home health therapy services that were never rendered and both villains were sent to prison. (Archives-Department of Justice).
– And Anar Rustamov, a national of Azerbaijan who appears to have entered the United States illegally, was indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with health care fraud for a scheme involving thousands of false claims for medical equipment totaling more than $90 million. (Department of Justice).
“It almost seems Dargan Boy that “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus but Santa’s pseudo name is ‘Uncle Sam’. Can you imagine our government sending out money and so easily defrauded by low life criminals Dargan Boy with no form or proof or accountability for these funds.”
And Bubba added ~ “if these programs are so easy to defraud, how many others are at risk across this entire country?
“Wow Bubba”, those three examples are just too plain hard to believe” said the Dargan Boy in total ‘disbelief’.
It sure is, Bubba replied, and get this, he continued:
Because the Republicans and Democrats can’t agree on much these days and because of this political ‘impasse’, some budgets have not been approved, and Transportation. Government (TSA) employees have forfeited their paychecks, leading to resignations and relying on food banks. Airports across the country are suffering consequences.
As a direct result of this impasse, ‘some officers are calling off, resulting in a shortage of staff, long lines at check ins, and many airflight delays at major airports.’
“That’s a bunch of malarky” moaned the Dargan Boy. Don’t politicians ever think of the American public? Here we are with pie and coffee, and those poor workers have no pay for themselves or their kids because of goofy politicians’.
Maybe it would be due justice, if a bunch of those politicians might suffer the same consequence; let’s have a law the states when the government doesn’t operate and causes a disruption, that every political representative forfeits their pay until it is reopened for normal business. Wagering here the government would never close then!
“Politics tend to stink up the room more than a runover highway polecat Bubba, when grown adults act like a bunch of juveniles,” chimed Dargan Boy.
As these arguments and behaviors among political parties continues to grow and fester in American government, like some cancer invading part of one’s medical body, how is one to survive without treatment Bubba? the Dargan Boy asked.
Bubba thought seriously and long about Dargan Boy’s above question as he sat in his easy chair finishing off his raspberry pie and cup of coffee.
‘Tis a mighty sad commentary of today’s politics Dargan Boy. Our system seems to be totally divided down the middle. Each party desires to be in power; and neither party wants to cooperate for the benefit of America, added Bubba.
Maybe John Kennedy, our 35th President, had a solution to this problem said the Dargan Boy
“Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer.”
Or perhaps Dargan Boy, old Abe Lincoln’s advice might be a word to the wise also ~ offered Bubba:
“A house divided against itself cannot stand”.
Ready or not, here comes the ‘future’!!! said Bubba.
