HAGERSTOWN – Marjorie Chapman, a cosmetology teacher at Boyd J. Michael, III Technical High School, credited with transforming the cosmetology program, has been named the 2025–2026 Washington County Teacher of the Year.
The announcement was made during a celebratory ceremony hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce at Fountain Head Country Club.
Chapman, who has served Washington County Public Schools for 12 years, was recognized not only for her commitment to her students, but also for her impact on career and technical education in the district. She is a national board certified teacher and holds a bachelor’s degree in education studies from Ashford University (now the University of Arizona Global Campus).
As this year’s winner, Chapman will receive $6,000 from WCPS to support her classroom initiatives, free Chick-fil-A meals for a year from Chick-fil-A of Hagerstown and the keys to a brand new Kia Sorento for her to drive during her tenure.
Chapman has played a large role in transforming the cosmetology program at Tech High by changing it from a two-year program to making it the school’s first ever three-year program. This expansion of the program increases access to hands-on training, industry-standard techniques and opportunities to gain a state license. By extending the program, Chapman has created a rigorous pathway for students to graduate with a high school diploma and the skills, certifications and the confidence needed to enter the workforce immediately.
