GREENCASTLE – Taymentasachta’s Environmental Center of Greencastle held the 44th annual Apple festival on Saturday, Oct. 11. Taymentasachta is named after a spring meaning “never-ending water” in Iroquoian. The center is located at a former farm affiliated with the Greencastle-Antrim School District and dedicated to environmental studies.
This year’s event took place at the environmental center and featured entertainment from the band, Two Mountains Over. Activities included a horse and wagon ride, pumpkin painting with the Greencastle-Antrim art club and instruction on topics such as blacksmithing, woodturning and environmental science.

A variety of apple-themed foods were at every turn in celebration of the season. Apple dumplings, apple funnel cakes and apple cider were among the indulgences. Meals were also sold including BBQ chicken, slaw and baked beans.

The festival also included environmental science educational stands and a display of tractors from Cumberland Valley Antique Engine and Machinery Association. Every end of this beautiful environmental center was filled with opportunities to learn and enjoy fall fun at the same time!
