CHAMBERSBURG — As kids celebrate summer and take a break from studies, United Way of Franklin County is already preparing for the coming school year with Stuff the Bus. From now through Aug. 1, collection boxes will appear throughout the communities of Franklin County, making it easy for members of the community to make donations that will ensure that classrooms across our communities are supplied for incoming kids.
Stuff the Bus has been working across Franklin County for more than a dozen years to help ensure that kids have what they need as school begins. United Way works with businesses and organizations in every community to ensure that collection points are active inside of every school district community.
In addition, in late July and mid-August, Stuff the Bus will be making a few stops in the community, giving donors a chance to deliver supplies directly to the effort.
- Mercersburg Lions Club Fair – Wednesday, Aug. 13; 5 p.m.-8 p.m.
- Path Valley Parade – Thursday, Aug. 14; 5 p.m.-8 p.m.
- Dollar Tree – 949 Lincoln Way E, Chambersburg – Saturday, July 26; 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Volunteers will power the events and help coordinate collection and tracking of supplies, finally delivering supplies to each school district.
“Stuff the Bus brings together community is a powerful way, as we all work to support our local schools and the kids going back for a new year.”, said Amy Hicks, executive director of United Way of Franklin County. “For many of us, this event helps us reminisce of our own back to school memories while we get a new generation ready for the upcoming year.”
Collection of school supplies will run through July 31 at collection sites. Readers may visit www.uwfcpa.org/stuff-the-bus for a list of requested supplies as well as donation box locations. Businesses can sign up for a box through the web page.
