Pennsylvania is ranked as the 15th “most sinful” state in a recent WalletHub study, while Maryland is ranked at 28th.
In order to determine the most sinful states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across seven key dimensions: 1) Anger & Hatred, 2) Jealousy, 3) Excesses & Vices, 4) Greed, 5) Lust, 6) Vanity and 7) Laziness.
The financial services company examined those dimensions using 54 relevant metrics, taken from current census data.
Pennsylvania ranked 25th on anger and hatred, as measured by violent crime data, 18th on “jealousy,” as measured by theft, identity theft and fraud; 43rd on excesses and vice, as measured by obesity and addiction; 27th on “greed,” as measured by charitable giving and gambling; and 10th for “lust,” as measured by teen pregnancy and prostitution arrests. Also measured were vanity, measured by the number of various care salons and plastic surgeons, (Pennsylvania ranked 5th) and “laziness” as measured by “disconnected youth,” high school graduation rates, average time watching TV and exercising, where the Commonwealth ranked 28th.
Maryland ranked 33rd on anger and hatred, fifth on jealousy, 44th on excesses, 47th on greed and 30th on lust. The state ranked 16th on vanity and 33rd on ‘laziness.”
