MERCERSBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is warning consumers not to drink raw milk from Byers Organic Dairy after routine testing confirmed contamination with Shigatoxin-producing E. coli.
The affected milk was sold between July 8 and July 10 with sell-by dates of July 22 and July 23 at Byers Organic Dairy, 10139 Church Hill Road in Mercersburg. The store has removed the product from shelves, but officials urge anyone who purchased the milk to throw it away immediately.
Shigatoxin-producing E. coli can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, sepsis and other serious illnesses. No illnesses have been reported.
The Department of Agriculture emphasized the importance of not consuming the recalled milk to prevent potential health risks.
