MERCERSBURG — The Star Theatre is set to serve up a hearty dose of humor and heart with “A Second Helping,” the all-new sequel to the beloved musical “Church Basement Ladies,” running Sept. 6-14. This production, set in a 1969 church basement kitchen, promises a fresh mix of comedy, music, and nostalgia, capturing the changing times through the lives of its cherished Lutheran ladies.
The show follows the familiar cast as they navigate war protests, equal pay debates, and a memorable Vikings Super Bowl Sunday, all while stirring up hot dish and Lutheran mischief. From the wise kitchen matriarch to a young mom-to-be, the characters deliver laughs and love in a story that resonates with audiences, whether they saw the original or not.
Directed musically by Jessica and Trevor Musser, the production builds on the success of last year’s “Church Basement Ladies.” Jessica, with a master’s degree in music education from Virginia Tech, and Trevor, a Liberty University graduate with experience as a band and choir director, bring their passion for music and theater to the stage. Their work ensures lively harmonies and a vibrant performance.
