CHAMBERSBURG – Downtown Chambersburg Inc. officials are proud to announce the grand opening of the Spring Street Amphitheater, a new outdoor performance and community gathering space in the heart of downtown Chambersburg.
The opening will be celebrated with three days of performances and festivities, running from Thursday, Oct. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 25.
Located at 59 Lincoln Way West, at the corner of Lincoln Way West and Spring Street – just one block from the Square, the Spring Street Amphitheater features tiered lawn seating for approximately 400 guests and stage. The design and landscaping create a welcoming space that blends art, nature and community connection.
Construction of the amphitheater was led by GRC Contractors, with an outstanding team of local subcontractors including Scott’s Excavating, East Coast Green, B&H, Glenn Myers Electric, Hornbaker’s Landscaping, Jamie Borden Electric, and Perry Fencing.
Additional project contributors included Franklin Advisory, Dennis E. Black Engineering Inc., and past assistance from Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) for the environmental review, Troy Garman for real estate work, and Horn & Co. for the property appraisal.
The project was funded through a Local Share Account Statewide Grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Downtown Chambersburg Inc. extends its deepest gratitude to Governor Josh Shapiro, the Department of Community & Economic Development, State Representative Rob Kauffman, and State Senator Doug Mastriano for their leadership and support in helping make the project possible.
In addition to state support, the project received funding from Franklin County, local foundations, individual donors, and other community partners. DCI also recognizes the Chambersburg Area Development Corporation for its partnership and vital role in advancing this transformative project.
DCI officials offered a special thank you to the Borough of Chambersburg, Town Council and its Land Use Department for working with Downtown Chambersburg Inc. on the Local Share Account–Statewide Grant, facilitating dialog locally to the Department of Community and Economic Development and providing much needed additional space to build the amphitheater. The Borough’s Electric, Water, Stormwater, Land Use Departments played crucial roles in planning the venue and bringing the amphitheater online.
They also thanked the Borough Police Department for their assistance in assessing the site’s security features.
Officials with Downtown Chambersburg Inc. proudly announced WellSpan Health as the first corporate sponsor of the Spring Street Amphitheater.
“We’re committed to a thriving Chambersburg, and this donation is an investment that will support a community gathering place that aligns with our mission at WellSpan: promoting lifelong wellness,” said Niki Hinckle, senior vice pesident of WellSpan’s West Region.
“Being a good partner in the community means more than just providing high-quality care in our facilities. The health and well-being of our communities benefits us all.”
WellSpan Health’s generous commitment will help fund the amphitheater’s stage covering and perimeter improvements – key features that will enhance the venue’s functionality, safety, and year-round use for community events.
“This amphitheater is a shining example of what can happen when a community comes together around a shared vision,” said Jenna Kaczmarek, DCI board chair. “It will provide a beautiful space for performances, celebrations and connections right in the heart of downtown Chambersburg.”
Stacy Mellott, chair of the Amphitheater Committee, added, “We wanted this to be more than a venue – we wanted to create a space where music, art and community thrive side by side. The opening weekend lineup showcases just how much local talent and energy we have right here in Franklin County.”
Sam Thrush, president of Downtown Chambersburg Inc., said, “The Spring Street Amphitheater represents years of planning, collaboration and generosity. It’s a milestone for DCI’s mission to create a vibrant, walkable downtown that attracts residents, visitors and investment.”
