CLEAR SPRING, Md. – Kara Hoover led a balanced scoring attack to lead the undefeated Smithsburg girls basketball team to a 17th straight win on Monday in a 71-23 over Clear Spring.
Hoover finished with 15 points, while Skyla Mastronardi had 12 and Claire Bono finished with 10.
Smithsburg is poised to host Middletown in a tough matchup on Wednesday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Linganore 78, North Hagerstown 60
LINGANORE, Md. – Linganore outscored North Hagerstown 53-31 in the middle two quarters to build a big enough cushion to turn back the reeling Hubs.
North, now 8-7, have lost its last six games since starting the season at 6-0.
Brayden Cespedes led North with 20 points, including 11 of 14 shots from the foul line, while Michael Bell added 14 points, including three 3-pointers, and a team-high five rebounds.
North led 16-15 after the first quarter, but fell behind 43-34 at the half. Linganore all but put the game away by outscoring North 25-13 in the third quarter. The Lancers led by as many as 21 points in the game.

Shepherd’s Banks named PSAC East Athlete of the Week
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd University’s junior Marcus Banks has been named PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Banks averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists to lead the Rams to a 2-0 week as Shepherd extended its winning streak to five games. Banks had 19 points in a win over Shippensburg on Monday and added 26 in a double-overtime win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
