SMITHSBURG – The Smithsburg girls basketball team capped an undefeated regular season on Thursday with a 58-28 win over Allegany.
Senior Skyla Mastronardi put her fingerprints in her final regular-season game with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Leopards (22-0). She added four assists and two blocked shots.
Smithsburg led 7-4 after one quarter but broke the game open with a 22-8 second period to take a 29-12 lead.
Jenna Todd followed with 11 points and was a force with six rebounds and eight blocked shots along with three assists and three steals. Jayda Tyler had 10 points and six rebounds.
It was the Leopards’ third win in as many days. They defeated Liberty on Tuesday and Brunswick on Wednesday.
Claire Bono, Smithsburg’s junior who surpassed 1,000 career points on Tuesday, finished with seven points.
Bono and Mastronardi were Smithsburg’s one-two scoring punch, running neck and neck for the team lead. Bono led the Leopards with a 17.4 point average, while Mastronardi carded a 17.3 average. Bono outscored Mastronardi 383-381 for the regular season. Todd led Smithsburg with 124 rebounds, while Mastronardi had 121.
Smithsburg has one formality before assuming the top seed in the Class 1A West Region II bracket. The Leopards will face Williamsport on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at North Hagerstown for the Central Maryland Conference small school title.
