TURIN, Italy – Smithsburg resident Candi Blessing earned international recognition after winning three medals for Team USA at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin.
Blessing captured gold in the 100-meter snowshoeing event and silver medals in both the 200-meter snowshoeing and the relay snowshoeing events. Her achievements highlight a career that spans athletics, basketball, floor hockey and snowshoeing.
The Washington County Board of County Commissioners honored Blessing for her accomplishments during a recent celebration. County officials attended the event to express pride and support for her success.
Blessing, who works in food services at a local medical center, has credited sports and the friendships she has made through Special Olympics as central to her life. Her determination and spirit have inspired many in the community.
Her performance in Turin stands as a testament to her dedication and the support of her hometown.
