Shippensburg men, women, to host PSAC basketball tourney games

SHIPPENSBURG — Both the Shippensburg University men’s and women’s basketball teams concluded the regular season at the top of their division and qualified for an opening bye in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament this week.

Both teams will host a Wednesday playoff game at Heiges Field House.

The men, with a 16-6 PSAC record finished in a tie for first in the Eastern Division with West Chester, but received the top seed by virtue of holding the tiebreaker against West Chester. The East was hotly contested all season and the Raiders could have dropped to as low as fourth seed had they lost the season finale against Lock Haven Saturday.

The Raiders will face the winner of an opening round game between Millersville and Lock Haven.

The Shippensburg women, with an 18-4 conference record, also finished in a first-place tie with West Chester, but West Chester held the tiebreaker in this instance, dropping Shippensburg to the second seed. The women will face the winner of a first-round game between Kutztown and Lock Haven.

Tip-off time for the women’s game on Wednesday will be 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at 7:30. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Shippensburg’s neighbor to the south, Shepherd University, was seeded sixth in the East and was scheduled to play an opening round game Monday at East Stroudsburg.
