INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Freshman outside hitter Emily Ryder, a Smithsburg graduate, totaled 22 kills on Friday to help pace the Shepherd University volleyball team to a two-match sweep at the UC-WVSU Crossover at West Virginia State.
The Rams (4-1) defeated Point Park in straight sets – 25-16, 25-13, 25-17 – before going five sets to take down West Virginia State, 25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 25-14, 15-13.
Ryder had 11 kills in each match.
Ada McCoy added 10 kills in the win over Park Point, while Rylee Lenz (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) added eight kills and five blocks against the Pioneers. Sophia Ryan also contributed seven kills and four blocks.
Ryder got another 11 kills to support the 19 by McCoy against West Virginia State. Ryan added 12 kills and five blocks.

Clear Spring 3, South Hagerstown 0
Isidora McCarty collected 21 digs and Aubrey Socks added 13 assists as South Hagerstown fell 25-19, 25-16, 25-16 on Thursday against Clear Spring.
South (0-3) also posted six kills by Malea Moore and two blocks each by Carson Lehman and Tenley Yost.
COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY
WINCHESTER, Va. – Shepherd University men finished fifth in a seven-team field, while four women competed on Friday at the Shenandoah University Twilight Race.
The men were led by freshman Logan Feeg, who finished in 23rd with a time of 21:32.9.
He was followed by senior Parker Mackey (41st, 23:26.1), sophomore Jackson Fiolek (58th, 23:35.8), freshman Mason Ratke (66th, 24:03.0) and senior Nick Yankle (75th, 26:54.0).
Junior Riley Staub, headed the women by finishing 24th with a time of 22:14.6.
She was followed by sophomore Zoe Boyd (29th, 22:39.3), freshman Aubrey Fernandez (38th, 23:51.4), freshman Jaclyn Unger (46th, 29:41.9) and freshman Gabrielle Thompson Servant, who did not finish
