CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Chambersburg Area Middle School North was placed under a shelter-in-place protocol Thursday morning while law enforcement officers searched the building, according to district officials.
School officials initiated the precautionary measures Thursday morning. School district police, the Pennsylvania State Police and local law enforcement agencies swept the facility as part of an active investigation.
In an email sent to families, school officials confirmed that all students were accounted for in their respective homerooms and emphasized that there was no active threat to the campus.
District officials noted that crews were working through safety procedures to clear the building out of an abundance of caution before returning the school to its normal daily schedule.
An eighth-grade school field trip scheduled for Thursday was canceled as a result of the protocol.
Further details regarding the nature of the investigation were not immediately released. Chambersburg police said they would not comment while the investigation continues.
