FAIRFIELD, Pa. — Fairfield Area School District schools will be closed Thursday because of a sewer issue, district officials said in a notice to families.
The closure applies to Thursday, Oct. 1. District officials also canceled after-school activities scheduled for Wednesday evening, Sept. 30.
Secondary-school extracurricular activities scheduled for Thursday will continue as planned, according to the district announcement.
The district said the closure will be treated as a board-approved calendar day that will not require makeup time for students, teachers, cafeteria staff or paraeducators.
Employees on 245-day schedules are expected to report to work as regularly scheduled.
District officials did not provide additional details about the sewer issue or say when normal operations are expected to resume.
