CHAMBERSBURG – Eligible Franklin County seniors can once again benefit from the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, which provides vouchers to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs from approved Pennsylvania farmers.
The program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, is open to Franklin County residents aged 60 or older who meet income guidelines – $28,953 annually for individuals or $39,128 for a household of two. Each eligible senior will receive five $5 vouchers, totaling $25, to spend at participating farmers markets.
Vouchers can be picked up at the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging office, 600 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, starting Monday, June 2. Distribution will continue through Sept. 30, or until funds are exhausted. Seniors must bring photo identification to receive vouchers, which are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The vouchers may be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs, but not processed foods such as jams, honey, nuts or cider. To find participating markets, seniors can contact the Area Agency on Aging at 717-263-2153 or visit pafmnp.pa.gov.
