HAGERSTOWN – Derek Kline is ready to take a healthy cut at junior college baseball.
Kline, one of South Hagerstown’s and Washington County’s more dangerous hitter, signed his national letter of intent to attend and play for Frederick Community College next year.
But first, the senior will take the field with the Rebels defend his title as county’s best hitter.
Kline led Washington County public schools with a .458 batting average, including a public school best 12 extra base hits. He was one of only six players to top .400 at the plate.
He had three homers, one triple and eight doubles enroute 27 hits for the year. The eight doubles were second-best in the county overall.
Kline was carried the second OPS – combination of on-base and slugging percentages – of 1.329 in the public-school ranks.
Kline also ranked third in slugging percentage (.780) and fourth in runs scored (22) and on-base percentage (549).
The Cougars, coached by Rodney Bennett, enter the 2025 season ranked No. 10 in NJCAA Division II. Frederick has been ranked in the poll for 24 years.
