CHAMBERSBURG – Downtown Chambersburg Inc. (DCI) will be holding a series of three public Input meetings on Tuesday, April 15, as part of an initiative to improve the downtown Chambersburg area.
The meetings will be held in three locations. The first will be at the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce at 8 a.m. The second, a virtual meeting, will be available on Zoom at noon. The last meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the Coyle Free Library’s Conservancy Room.
“We want to make downtown better for all, and we want to give everyone a chance to share,” said Sam Thrush, president of DCI. “People can come to the meetings whenever they can – before work, over a lunch break or after their errands are finished.”
DCI recently conducted a community survey to gauge what changes residents would be interested in. “We learned a lot about what’s working and what can be improved in downtown Chambersburg,” Thrush said. Results indicated that residents appreciate efforts to increase downtown events, strengthen local businesses and beautify the area. Points of improvement included diversifying businesses and guidance on sustaining them, increasing accessible and convenient parking, developing downtown nightlife, increasing safety measures and balancing Chambersburg’s historic appeal with modern revitalization.
DCI’s goal in these endeavors is to discover what the community wants to see in the downtown area. The solicitation of public opinion is part of DCI’s application for the Main Street Matters designation, which opens funding opportunities for downtown revitalization efforts.
“We will use these results – and the information shared with us at the public input meetings – to create a better downtown for visitors and for those who call Chambersburg home,” Thrush said.
