WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Renfrew Museum & Park will mark the nation’s 250th anniversary with a day of Revolutionary War living history on July 25.
The “250th Soldier and Militia Living History” event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Smoke House along the Mill Race Trail, 1010 E. Main St. The program will feature small-scale, hands-on demonstrations designed to immerse visitors in the daily lives of Continental Army soldiers and local militia during the American Revolution.
Living historians will portray soldiers of the era, offering insight into military routines, battlefield preparation and camp life. Guests can interact directly with presenters, ask questions and examine reproduction equipment used during the 18th century.
Throughout the day, attendees can watch marching and military drill demonstrations that reflect authentic training techniques used more than two centuries ago. Organizers say the drills will highlight how soldiers prepared for combat and maintained discipline in the field.
Cooking demonstrations will also be featured, showcasing the food, tools and methods used to sustain troops during the war. Visitors will gain a better understanding of the resourcefulness required to feed an army in challenging conditions.
The event is designed for all ages, with interactive elements encouraging families to explore history beyond observation. Participants will have opportunities to engage with exhibits, learn about daily routines and experience aspects of Revolutionary-era life firsthand.
Renfrew officials say the program is part of broader efforts to commemorate America’s semiquincentennial by connecting the community with the people and stories that shaped the nation’s founding.
Admission details and additional information are available through Renfrew Museum & Park.
