Penn State Extension to host jam, jelly workshop

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Penn State Extension will offer a hands-on workshop focused on safe home food preservation methods for jams and jellies later this month.

The session is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Penn State Extension Franklin County office, 181 Franklin Farm Lane.

The workshop is part of the organization’s Home Food Preservation series, which aims to educate participants on the science behind modern preservation techniques. Attendees will learn how to safely prepare and process jams and jellies while avoiding outdated or unsafe practices.

Organizers said the program will explain the scientific reasoning behind current recommendations, helping participants better understand why certain methods are considered safe and effective.

In addition to instruction, the workshop will provide practical preparation tips designed for both beginners and those with prior experience in home food preservation.

The cost to attend is $15.

Participants can register online at extension.psu.edu/home-food-preservation-jams-and-jellies or call 877-345-0691 for more information.
