FREDERICK, Md. – The South Hagerstown girls softball team unveiled a team motto.
If you are going to win, make it memorable.
The Rebels made a huge impression with their first win of the season on Friday with a huge inning and a few school records in a comfortable 18-3 victory over Frederick.
South (1-2) scored the first 18 runs of the game – including a 10-run second inning – to earn a five-inning victory via the 10-run mercy rule.
Raelee Fry sparked South with a grand slam to highlight the second-inning outburst. She added a double and drove in six runs in the win. Chelsea Desmond chipped in with a 5-for-5 day with two doubles and two RBIs.
The Rebels finished with 21 hits, including six doubles.
Pitcher Kailia Burke notched the victory without allowing an earned run, while striking out four. She reached the 100th strikeout of her career with the final out of the fourth inning.
Ja’Seri Chapman, who had 2 hits, stole a base to tie the South record with 42 career steals. She tied the mark of former teammate Bethany Higgins.
On the other end of the spectrum, Elena Runfola collected the first two hits of her career, including a double.
Shepherd Baseball Drops Pair to #30 Millersville

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Millersville University made a fruitful trip to Shepherd University with a doubleheader sweep of the Rams.
The Marauders (19-6, 4-2 PSAC East) opened with a four-run first inning in opening game and never looked back.
Shepherd made it 4-1 in the bottom of the first when outfielder Bodie Pullen reached on an error and scored on Infielder Ryan Fluharty’s ground out.
The Marauders extended their lead to 5-1 lead in the third inning on a solo shot from Jimmy Kirk.
The Rams got one back in the third on an RBI double by infielder Evan Rosario.
Millersville took a 7-2 advantage in the fifth behind a solo homer from Brady Ebbert and added three runs in the seventh to close out the win.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap on catcher Alex Rose’s run-scoring double and ground out by infielder Braylon Conner.
Millersville tied the game at 2-2 in the third on a two-run single from Chris Hunsicker and took a 3-2 lead in the fourth.
Shepherd took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of unearned runs, one driven in on Rosario’s sacrifice fly.
The Marauders scored three runs in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead.
Shepherd scored a run in the seventh and had the bases loaded with one out, but Millersville reliever Carlos Caraballo entered the game and retired the next two batters to secure the win.
