WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Families gathered Tuesday evening at the Waynesboro Area YMCA for the first Summer Nights at the Y, a free three-week community series designed to bring neighbors together for music, games and summer fun.
The kickoff event, “Beat the Heat,” ran from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cookie Beck Memorial Pavilion, 810 E. Main St. The evening featured DJ music, karaoke, a dunk tank, sidewalk chalk, outdoor field games, sand volleyball, pickleball, mini golf and badminton.
Food trucks also were on site, including Chillin’ Out Snowballs and Antietam Dairy, adding to the festival-style atmosphere. The dunk tank drew the biggest crowd, with attendees lining up throughout the evening for a chance to take aim.
The celebration also included a train dance line led by mascots Snoopy and the Shark, adding a playful touch to the family-friendly event.
Summer Nights at the Y continues Aug. 5 with “Summer Jams Night” and Aug. 12 with the “End of Summer Bash.”
