The Waynesboro Indians varsity baseball team has experienced a challenging season, deviating from their usual pattern of competing for a spot in the District 3 playoffs. Despite a current record of 4-6, they recently secured a 3-1 victory over Big Spring on April 21, 2025. The win was largely credited to starting pitcher John Kahl, who delivered a complete-game performance, allowing only five base runners and striking out six batters. The team’s defense also played a crucial role in supporting Kahl’s dominant pitching.
Offensively, Waynesboro managed to score three runs, with key contributions from Gunner Shifflett, who scored the first run after reaching base on a walk and advancing due to a throwing error. Additional runs came in the fourth inning through a combination of doubles, walks, sacrifice bunts, and timely bunting plays that brought runners home. Despite leaving six runners in scoring position, the Indians held on to their lead and snapped a two-game losing streak against James Buchanan and Boiling Springs.
Overall, while the season has not met the team’s usual standards, the recent win against Big Spring shows signs of improvement and resilience. The Indians are preparing to host Northern York in an upcoming Mid-Penn Colonial Division game, aiming to build momentum for the remainder of their schedule.
