Maryland is the 22nd most obese state in the country, while Pennsylvania ranks 25th, according to statisticians from WalletHub, a personal financial services firm.
The heaviest states are West Virginia, Mississippi and Arkansas, states where food insecurity and low incomes are considered serious problems.

The District of Columbia has the lowest percentage of obese adults, 1.7 times lower than in West Virginia, the state with the highest.
