Path Valley Speedway kicks off with Claybreaker Season Opener

The long wait is over. Racing has finally returned to Path Valley Speedway.

More than 100 drivers ventured to Dry Run last weekend for Path Valley’s Claybreaker Season Opener, a race program that was jam-packed with five features. It was a successful night both for the speedway and the local racers who competed. Ten area competitors landed Top 10 finishes throughout the evening, including three second-place finishers.

Cory Myers, of Fayetteville, took second in the 270 Sprints behind race winner Mason McAndrew, while Greencastle’s Bradyn Kuhn (3rd) and Fort Loudon’s Zach Glass (5th) weren’t far behind. Greencastle’s Logan Jones was the runner-up in the East Coast Legends feature, which also saw a third-place finish from Chambersburg’s Kelby Friese.

The 600 Sprints at Path Valley saw three locals finish in the Top 10: Hagerstown’s Kameron Morral (2nd), Waynesboro’s Darren Kauffman (9th), and Fayetteville’s Camden Cooper (10th). Cameron Defenderfer, of Fayetteville, took sixth in the Thunder Cars, while Chambersburg’s Rodney Walls finished seventh.

At Williams Grove Speedway, Lance Dewease overcame brake issues to move from third to second in the 410 Sprints feature. The “Fayetteville Flyer,” a member of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, currently leads the points standings at the Grove.

The string of local second-place finishes continued at BAPS Motor Speedway for the Smokey Frye Tribute. Competing in the Limited Late Models, Dawson Walls finished in second, while fellow St. Thomas driver Michael Walls claimed sixth place.

Finally, at Bedford Speedway, two St. Thomas drivers recorded Top 10 finishes in the Late Model Sportsman feature: Gunner Walls (7th) and Keith Walls (8th).

Racing at Hagerstown Speedway is scheduled to kick off this weekend.

Below is a track-by-track, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the Local.News1 coverage area:
