Palmer surges to victory at BAPS Motor Speedway

Franklin County wasn’t just taking part in the Limited Late Models feature at BAPS Motor Speedway, it was taking over.

Five county drivers, including race winner Scott Palmer, landed Top 10 finishes in the 20-lap feature. Greencastle’s Palmer was sharp, winning his heat race before driving from sixth to Victory Lane in the main event. He was pursued by a group of local drivers that included St. Thomas’ Gunner Walls (2nd), Dawson Walls (4th), and Michael Walls (7th), and Chambersburg’s Rodney Walls (6th).

The Walls surname also shined brightly on the previous night at both Bedford Speedway and McGrewBid Motoplex. Competing in the Late Model Sportsman feature at Bedford, the aforementioned Gunner Walls took the checkered flag. Todd Walls, of Greencastle, had a good evening at the office at McGrewBid, taking first in his PA Micro Midgets 500cc heat race before going from fourth to second in the feature.

Path Valley Speedway saw five area drivers land Top 10 finishes, including Greencastle driver Logan Jones, who finished on top of an East Coast Legends field that included Chambersburg’s Kirk Martin (8th). Zach Glass, of Fort Loudon, claimed second in the 270 Sprints, while Waynesboro’s Darren Kauffman zipped to a fourth-place finish in the 600 Sprints. Fayetteville’s Roger Traxler took 10th in the Thunder Cars.

Greencastle’s DJ Myers was solid in the Limited Late Models at Port Royal Speedway. He won his heat race, before jumping from fourth to runner-up in the feature. Also at Port Royal, Fayetteville’s Cole Dewease took 10th in the 305 Sprints.

Speaking of the Dewease family, Cole’s dad Lance posted a Top 10 finish of his own at Lincoln Speedway. Competing in the 410 Sprints, the “Fayetteville Flyer” and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer moved up eight spots to secure ninth place.

Finally, at Friendship Motor Speedway in North Carolina, Chambersburg teenager Trevor Gach posted a seventh-place finish in the Carolina Sprint Tour.

Below is a track-by-track, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the Local.News1 coverage area:
