Outfielder Pullen continues hot start Saturday as Shepherd grabs wins, other Ram news

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.– Outfielder Bodie Pullen continued his hot start by going 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI in the first game on Saturday as Shepherd University swept a doubleheader from the University of Charleston by scores of 9-6 and 11-5. 

Pullen started the Rams (11-3) day with double before scoring on a double by infielder Ryan Fluharty in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. 

After Charleston tied the game in the top of the second, infielder Evan Rosario singled and eventually scored on a Pullen ground out for a 2-1 lead after two innings. 

Shepherd broke a 2-2 tie in the third with three runs, RBI-double from Rosario. 

The Rams took an 8-3 lead in the fifth with a solo home run from outfielder Ethan Jones in another three-run rally. 

Pitcher Allen Miller worked five innings, allowing three runs in seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts to earn the win. 

In the nightcap, Charleston took a 1-0 lead in the first before Shepherd tied the game in to bottom of the inning as Pullen walked, reached second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on a throwing error.  

The Rams took a 2-1 lead in the second when outfielder Alex Rose walked and scored on infielder Braylon Conner RBI single. 

The Golden Eagles put up runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-2 lead.  

Shepherd rallied with nine runs on five hits in the fifth to take an 11-5 advantage. Rosario hit a two-run homer and a three-run blast to key the scoring. 

Rosario went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and drove in five runs to pace the Rams. 

Pitcher Gavin Miller worked five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts. 

COLLEGE SOFTBALL 

Shepherd 3, Indiana (Pa.) 1 

Frostburg 14, Shepherd 5 

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sadie Kittoe, Cate Russian and Brenna Collis had two hits each to lead Shepherd to win over Indiana (Pa.) in the first to two games played by the Rams on Saturday. 

The Rams (2-4) lost the nightcap to Frostburg State. 

Against Indiana, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the third when Kittoe, the shortstop, led off with a single and later scored on a single by Russian. 

 After IUP tied the game in the sixth, Shepherd a pair of runs in the sixth to secure the win. Collis belted a solo home run and Kittoe added a run-scoring triple to key the rally. 

Pitcher Madelayne Ruffner fired seven innings, allowing a run on seven hits with a walk and 11 strikeouts for the win. 

In game two, Frostburg State took advantage of 11 hits and three Shepherd errors control the game. 

Outfielder Haylee Hartman, a Boonsboro graduate, ripped a run-scoring triple and Lindsay Hunter added a two-run triple to highlight the Rams’ five-run sixth inning. 

WOMEN’S LACROSSE 

Belmont Abbey 14, Shepherd 5 

BELMONT, N.C. – Emerson Sheyda scored three goals and added an assist to lead Belmont Abbey over Shepherd on Saturday. 

The Rams (1-3) were led by attacker Holly Poe with a pair of goals. Midfielder Britney Warner and attacker/midfielder Rebekah Stotler each added a goal and an assist. 

FORMER SHEPHERD ATHLETE HIRED 

McCook named Coordinator for External Relations 

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University Director of Athletics Carrie Bodkins announced Michael McCook has been named Coordinator for External Relations. 

McCook comes to Shepherd after serving as a Player Tracking Systems Tracking Specialist for Zebra Technologies/NFL Next Gen Stats, while also teaching Cross-Media Marketing and Marketing Principles at Martinsburg High School since 2024. 

He had a stint as a Business Development Associate for Financial Growth Partners and served as an assistant coach for the Shepherd football team in 2023. 

McCook gained his bachelor’s degree in Sports Marketing from Shepherd in 2021 and added an MBA from Shepherd in 2022. 

McCook was a member of the Shepherd football team from 2017-22. He was a member of four NCAA II Playoff teams and a conference champion team. He also served as a team captain. 

MEN’S BASKETBALL 

Banks, Wordlaw, coach Namolik earn all-conference honors 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd University guards Marcus and Elwyne Wordlaw were named to the 2025-26 PSAC East All-Conference Team last week. Shepherd coach Justin Namolik was also honored as East Coach of the Year. 

Namolik led the Rams to a  regular-season record of 19-9 (15-6 PSAC) earn share of the regular-season East Division championship and a third seed in the conference tournament. 

Banks, a second team honoree last season, was a first team selection after leading the Rams in scoring (18.5 points), assists (4.5), and steals (1.7). He is second on the team in rebounding (5.3), and his 22 three-pointers are fourth on the team. He scored 20 points or more in 12 contests, including a career-high 32 points in the PSAC Tournament against California (Pa.). Banks was named PSAC East Athlete of the Week for Nov. 18 2025. 

Wordlaw was placed on the second team after averaging 15.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.6 steals. His .824 free throw percentage topped the team, while his .472 field goal percentage was second.  

Wordlaw scored 20 points or more in a game 10 times, including a career-high 32-point effort against West Chester. 

Millersville’s Day Waters was named the East’s player of the year, while Millersville’s Aamir Hurst was the top defensive player. East Stroudsburg’s Adran Brito was the East’s freshman of the year. 

Shippensburg junior Markus Franks was named to the first team, while Jaydon Smith earned second-team honors. 

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 

Estridge, Wehner, coach Kaufman earn  PSAC East recognition 

 LOCK HAVEN, Pa.– Shepherd University forward Lamaria Estridge and guard Kara Wehner were named to the 2025-26 PSAC All-Conference Team on March 6, while Rams’ Julie Kaufman was named East Coach of the Year. 

Estridge was a first team selection as the Rams’ leading scorer (16.1 ppg) and rebounder (6.8). Her 45 steals tied for the team lead while her 1.7 steals per game ranked her second. Her 12 blocked shots hit 22 three-pointers. 

Wehner was also a first team choice as she led the team in three-pointers (56), free throw percentage (.935, 43-46), assists (3.5), and steals (1.9). Her 15.0 scoring average was second on the team. Wehner scored 20 points or more four times, including a career-high 29 points against Mansfield. She was named PSAC East Athlete of the Week for Feb.16. 

Kaufman earned her first career Eastern Division Coach of the Year award by guiding the Rams to a fifth seed in the conference playoffs after goind 11-16 (9-12 in conference), just a season after finishing out of the postseason with a 7-21 overall record (4-17 PSAC). 

 The East athlete of the year was Alana Robinson of Loch Haven, while teammate Madeline Evans was the top defensive player. Millersville’s Daniella Ranieli was the freshman of the year.
