Mr. Scott Daniel Kinsey, 59, of Maugansville, MD, passed away Friday, November 14, 2025, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.

Born on January 18, 1966, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Alvey L. Kinsey, Jr. and the late Betty C. (Peterson) Kinsey.

Scott graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School with the Class of 1984. He spent several years working at Bobcat in Hagerstown, where he sold commercial and industrial equipment until retiring more than twenty years ago due to health reasons.

On September 22, 1990, Scott married the love of his life, Barbara “Barb” (Duffey) Kinsey, in Rouzerville, PA.

Scott lived with a heart open to simple joys. He possessed a natural talent for fixing things, restoring broken objects with the same care he used when tending to the people he loved. His kitchen often carried the comforting aromas of his grandparents’ recipes, especially his homemade pies, each one crafted with the pride of tradition and a steady, patient hand. He cherished the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or simply breathing in a quiet morning. He was always up for created worlds and memories around the Dungeons & Dragons table. But above all, the role that brought him the most joy was being “Pappy.” His grandchildren, Michael and Addison, filled his days with light, laughter, and purpose. In their eyes, he found a happiness deeper than words could ever capture. Among those closest to him, Scott carried the affectionate nickname “the wise squirrel,” a small and tender testament to his humor, his quick wit, and the quiet wisdom he offered with gentle ease. Those who knew the story behind the name will hold it close to their hearts.

Scott is survived by his wife, Barb; his children, Walker E. Kinsey of Maugansville, and Kaylin R. Kinsey and her fiancé, Jonathan Shawyer of Cavetown, MD; and his two beloved grandchildren, Michael and Addison Shawyer of Cavetown, who lovingly called him “Pappy.” He is also survived by his sister, Jenny Kinsey Dunkinson of Hummelstown, PA; his brothers, Alvey Lee Kinsey IV and wife Sandra of Port Republic, VA, and Clyde David Kinsey and wife Shelly of Reading, PA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his brother, Shawn W. Kinsey, who passed away in August 2016.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, PA, with Ashley Klitch officiating. Please come prepared to share a few words about Scott. Burial will follow in Broadfording Cemetery near Hagerstown, MD.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 20, and again one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Memorial contributions in Scott’s honor may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
