Noah’s Ark bridges gap with downtown spooks

WAYNESBORO – Trick-or-treating in downtown Waynesboro Oct. 31 helped “bridge the gap” between two “communities,” according to the director of a local childcare center.

“Events like this allow our students (and their families) to experience how a community, and its neighbors and businesses, can work together for the common goal of showcasing all that Waynesboro has to offer,” added Lindsay Cook, of Noah’s Ark Christian Childcare Center.

This is the third annual cooperative event between “our Noah’s Ark community,” located on South Church Street in Waynesboro, and the community of Waynesboro just a few blocks away, Cook said.

A few weeks before the event, Cook and pre-kindergarten teacher Melanie Fogle visit local businesses on Main Street to request their assistance. “Each year we are appreciative as the number of businesses participating continues to grow,” Cook added. “We strive to support local, small businesses and to instill that desire in our younger generation.”

About 75 costumed students, ranging in age from 6-weeks- to 5-years-old, knocked on the doors of local businesses who distributed candy and goodies during the trick or treating.

Businesses who participated include: Brio Coffeehouse, Wee Scot Book Shoppe, Holmes Watercolors, Despina Leos Candy Kitchen, Zoe’s Chocolate, Borough of Waynesboro headquarters, Waynesboro Police, Sanders Furniture Refinishing, American Legion, Kara Geesaman Tax Office, M&T Bank, James and Jess’ House of Goods, Christine’s Cafe, Borough of Waynesboro Fire Station, New Hope Shelter, Bathe, Vice City Tattoo, WACCO Properties, For the Love of Dogs, The Vintage Flame, Morning Star: A Perfect Gift, and Nikki’s Noodles.

“I am honored to serve a small business in a community that is willing to collaborate for the betterment of our students and their educational journey and I hope this event continues for many years to come,” Cook said.
