National Night Out events planned across Franklin, Washington counties

National Night Out events are set for Tuesday, Aug. 4, with communities across Franklin and Washington counties gathering for family-friendly activities, public safety demonstrations and opportunities to connect with local law enforcement and first responders.

The annual observance, held each year on the first Tuesday in August, is intended to strengthen police-community partnerships and encourage neighborhood engagement.

Franklin County

In Waynesboro, the Police Department will host National Night Out from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park. The event will give residents a chance to meet officers, firefighters, EMS personnel and community organizations that help keep the city safe and welcoming.

Greencastle Police Department will host its celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. on the north side of the square in Greencastle. The event will feature food, face painting, local first responders, emergency vehicles, children’s activities and other family-friendly attractions.

Washington Township Police Department will hold its National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lowe’s parking lot, 12925 Washington Township Blvd. Community partners will join the police department for an evening of neighborhood fun.

Chambersburg Police Department will host its event at Chambersburg Memorial Park, 1 Washabaugh Way, from 4 to 7 p.m., or through 8 p.m. depending on specific borough activities. The gathering will include free food, K-9 demonstrations, emergency vehicle displays, community resource tables and children’s activities.

Shippensburg’s event will be held at the Shippensburg Police Department parking lot, 60 W. Burd St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Activities will include free children’s activities, public safety demonstrations, child fingerprinting stations and refreshments.

Washington County

In Hagerstown, the Police Department will host its annual National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. at the north pavilion of Fairgrounds Park. The event is free and open to the public.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will host its National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. at Byron Memorial Park in Williamsport. That event also is free and open to the public.

Boonsboro’s event will be held at Shafer Park, 37 Park Drive, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Organizers say the celebration will include public safety demonstrations, live music, free food and drinks provided by local sponsors and activities for children.

Smithsburg will host its National Night Out at Veterans’ Park, 68 W. Water St., from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Planned activities include emergency vehicle displays, K-9 demonstrations, live music, inflatables, moon bounce attractions and food vendors.

National Night Out is celebrated nationwide as a way to promote stronger ties between residents and public safety agencies while encouraging safer, more connected neighborhoods.
