OAKLAND, Md. – Brayden Cespedes scored 33 points as North Hagerstown grabbed the upper hand in overtime on Saturday for a 67-63 win over Hereford in the Snowball Classic at Southern Garrett High School.
Cespedes hit 12 of 18 shots, including a 3, and 8 of 9 free throws in what became a tight struggle to the finish, allowing the Hubs to remain undefeated through six games.
North trailed 30-23 at the half, but outscored Hereford 20-11 in the third quarter take a 43-41 lead before falling into a 53-53 tie in regulation. The Hubs outscored Hereford 14-10 in the extra period.
The game featured seven ties and 15 lead changes. North’s largest lead of the game was four points, which was the margin of victory.
Joey Dorsey added 18 points for North with eight rebounds. Jaron Nicholson finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Cespedes also had four steals and four assists.
The game was scheduled to be the second game of a tournament at Southern Garrett, but Friday’s games were cancelled by inclement weather.
Allegany 68, South Hagerstown 67
CUMBERLAND, Md. – Sebastian Stewart scored on a pump-fake layup over D.J. Ward Jr., at the buzzer on Saturday to lead the Campers over the Rebels for the title in the Bill Bowers Christmas Classic.
Allegany finished 2-0 in the tournament. South settled for a 1-1 mark after defeating Fort Hill on Friday.
Luke Leisinger led the Rebels with 16 points, while Nazir Mitchell added 15 and Avery Cosley collected 13 points and 13 rebounds, along with four assists. Leisinger also had five rebounds and three assists and Mitchell passed out five assists.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
South Hagerstown 51, Brunswick 39
FREDERICK, Md. – Khloe Terralonge and Aniyah Freeman combined for 47 points as the Rebel won for the first time in exactly a year with a victory over the Railroaders at the Candy Cane Classic at Thomas Johnson.
The win ended a 24-game losing streak, which started on Dec. 27, 2024.
Terralonge scored a game-high 26 points, including 10 from the foul line.
Freeman had 21 points with eight rebounds and six blocked shots. She also added two steals.
Smithsburg 66, Urbana 53
FREDERICK, Md. – Skyla Mastronardi scored 21 points and Claire Bono added 19 as the Leopards remained undefeated with a victory over Bears at the Candy Cane Classic.
It was Smithsburg send straight win over a Class 3A school in as many days. The Leopards, from a Class 1A program, defeated Linganore on Friday.
Mastronardi scored nine baskets, including three 3-pointers, to go with eight rebounds, six steals and three assists. Bono hit on seven shots – including two 3s – and added seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Jayda Tyler added 12 points, while Jenna Todd had finished with just six points but added support with six rebounds, four assists and five blocked shots.
