There’s no doubt about it, youth soccer is a sport that is taken seriously in the Local.News1 coverage area.
This is evidenced by the presence of at least 50 local travel squads that populate the Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Leage (CPYSL) and United Recreational Soccer League (URSL). Perhaps even more telling is that 13 of those teams are off to unbeaten starts this spring.
In the CPYSL, Union Soccer Club of Chambersburg boasts a pair of teams with 2-0 records — the U13 Eclipse (girls) and U11 Vikings (boys) — while the U10 Tornadoes (1-0-1), U11 Arsenal (1-0-1), and U13 Lightning (1-0) have also yet to taste defeat. Greencastle United Soccer Club has a couple of its own unbeaten teams in the CPYSL: The U13 Destroyers (1-0-1) and U12 Rage (1-0).
The URSL features six area teams with unblemished records. Smithsburg’s Lingg Purple, Sweitzer, and Bailey squads are off to a combined 4-0 start, Waynesboro’s Maidens and Blue teams have opened with a combined 3-0 record. Fairfield is also off to a 1-0 start in the URSL.
