MONT ALTO – Penn State Mont Alto women’s volleyball coach Randy Hood reached a significant milestone, securing his 100th career victory as the Nittany Lions defeated Penn State Greater Allegheny in five sets.
Hood’s coaching accomplishments extend far beyond this recent achievement. In 2022, he led Mont Alto to its first PSUAC title in 19 years and first-ever team National Championship in school history. His dedication and expertise have been instrumental in the program’s remarkable success.
Prior to joining Mont Alto, Hood served as the head coach at Penn State Harrisburg, where he revitalized a struggling program and led them to a dramatic nine-win improvement. He also spent six years at Shippensburg University, guiding the Red Raiders to two Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference (PSAC) tournament quarterfinal appearances.
Hood’s extensive coaching experience also includes head coaching positions at local high schools in Carlisle, Big Spring, and Boiling Springs. He also spent a year as an assistant coach at Messiah College.
With 23 years of coaching experience at the college and high school levels, Hood brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Mont Alto volleyball program. He has also directed and instructed numerous volleyball developmental camps, including collaborations with Mark Pavlik, head coach of the men’s volleyball team at Penn State University.
Hood’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the volleyball court. He and his wife, Cindy, plan to continue residing in Carlisle, Pa., where they are surrounded by their sons, Josh and Mitchell, and their granddaughters, Emma, Olivia, Julia, and Lucy.
