WAYNESBORO -The Church of the Apostles will host its annual monarch butterfly program on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. in the church’s air-conditioned fellowship hall at 336 Barnett Ave., located in the Wayne Heights development. The event, organized by the church’s pollinator and wildlife group, aims to educate the community about the monarch butterfly’s life cycle, migratory journey, conservation challenges and how to raise caterpillars into butterflies for release.
Attendees are asked to use the parking lot entrance. The one-hour program will include information on the monarch’s remarkable migration and its environmental struggles. Families can also obtain free caterpillar nurseries to raise monarchs, but they must be ordered by Aug. 15 by contacting Bob Benchoff at 717-377-4729 or [email protected]. Nurseries will be distributed during the event.
Weather permitting, participants are invited to explore the church’s pollinator and wildlife habitat, nectar garden and monarch waystation after the program to search for monarch eggs, caterpillars and milkweed leaves.
The church is affiliated with the United Church of Christ.
