Moats rolls to Victory Lane at Winchester Speedway

Eric Moats is on the board.

The Waynesboro driver scored his first win of the season at Winchester Speedway on Saturday. Competing in the Sport Compact Dirt Racing Association (SCDRA) division, Moats was making forward progress all night. He went from fourth to second in his heat race, before driving from fourth to Victory Lane in the 15-lap feature.

Moats was chased to the finish line by John Bumbaugh, of St. Thomas, who finished in third.

Moats warmed up for his winning night by commpeting at Clinton County Speedway on Friday. An eighth-place finish in his Legends heat race led to a 22nd-starting spot in the feature, but Moats made up for lost time by jumping seven spots to take 15th. While Moats missed the Top 10, several other locals made it, including the father-son combo of Seth Kearchner (3rd) and Lincoln Kearchner (4th), as well as Chambersburg’s Kelby Friese (5th), Ben Marrow (8th), and Jayden Powell (9th).

At Linda’s Speedway, two area drivers landed Top 10 finishes in their respective races. Chambersburg’s Rodney Walls took fourth in the Chargers race, while Greencastle’s Parker Starr was a fifth-place finisher in the Crown Vic feature.

Of course, racing headlines last week were dominated by Pennsylvania Speedweek, a showcase series that included one 410 Sprints driver from the LocalNews1.org coverage area. Lance “Fayetteville Flyer” Dewease had kicked off with two Top 5 finishes over the first three races, but the No. 8 car cooled down the stretch. The National Sprint Car Hall of Famer’s highlight over the final five races of the series came on Friday at the Mitch Smith Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway. There, Dewease won the B-Main, before his evening came to an end with a DNF for 23rd in the feature.

For the fourth-straight year, Pennsylvania Speedweek was won by Dillsburg phenom Anthony Macri with 1,164 points. He outdueled York’s Chase Dietz — who leads the nation with 15 wins — a driver who finished with 1,073 points.

Racing was rained out at Lincoln, Grandview, Port Royal, Selinsgrove, and BAPS Motor Speedways last weekend, while the Friday program at McGrewBid Motoplex was called off for extreme heat. Path Valley Speedway enjoyed a scheduled weekend off from racing.

Below is a track-by-track, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the LocalNews1.org coverage area:
