Mid-Penn Conference releases spring All-Stars, 48 locals honored

The baseball teams at Waynesboro and Greencastle-Antrim fought tooth and nail for a title in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division.

In the end, the Tribe and Blue Devils tied for the division crown. And now, following the Mid-Penn Conference’s release of its spring All-Star squads, the Franklin County rivals also share the bulk of the All-Colonial selections.

Waynesboro and Greencastle-Antrim combined for 18 All-Star selections, including Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, and six First Team picks. Across all sports, the Local.News1 coverage area landed 48 spots on the Mid-Penn All-Star teams.

The Tribe went 17-5 this season (12-2 Colonial) and earned a spot in the District 3-6A postseason. Travis Hardman was named Coach of the Year, while First Teamers from Waynesboro included Ryan Jenkins, John Kahl, and Rylan Nichols.

Avery Horst, a standout for the Blue Devils, was voted as the Colonial’s Player of the Year. A threat at both the plate and on the mound, he is a big part of the reason why Greencastle’s season is still rolling into the state playoffs. Horst is batting .432 (32 for 74) with 10 extra-base hits, 21 runs, and 32 RBI. As a pitcher he is 6-1 with a 1.91 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 33 innings. He was joined on the First Team by teammates Cam Rakaczewski and Ryder Linn.

Another team that has qualified for the state playoffs, Chambersburg, garnered three selections to the All-Commonwealth team, including a couple of First Teamers in Ryne Mills and Brady Truett.

In softball, the Trojans’ Christian Skultety and Greencastle’s Mark DeCarli were both named Coach of the Year in their respective divisions. Three Chambersburg players — Erissa Varner, Issie Slimmer, and Addison Gsell — were named to the Commonwealth First Team. Kylie Kerns was the lone Blue Devil First Teamer in the Colonial. Emma Bradley, of Waynesboro, was a First Team pick in the Colonial.

Finally, Chambersburg’s boys and girls lacrosse squads combined for 10 All-Commonwealth selections, including four First Teamers. Reagan Barrett, Brynn Sekel, and Reese Heverly all landed First Team picks for the Trojan girls, while the boys were represented by Ryan Jenkins selection to the First Team.
