MERCERSBURG – The Mercersburg Lions Club will host its 50th Annual Community Fair from Aug. 10 to Aug. 16, at the Mercersburg Lions Club Park, 405 S. Park St. This weeklong celebration, a cherished tradition, offers free admission and parking, drawing families for rides, food, games, bingo, entertainment and community spirit. As a fundraiser, the fair supports the upkeep of the park, the only walkable public park in the borough.
The fair kicks off Sunday, Aug. 10, with a food stand open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., serving hot dogs, hamburgers, ground ox, country ham, French fries, Hershey’s ice cream and drinks. A highlight is the Carbloader Burger, featuring caramelized onions, hash browns, mac and cheese, and maple honey BBQ sauce, which won the club’s May burger competition.
No rides operate on opening night, but a Vespers Service begins at 6 p.m., followed by the Mercersburg Area Community Band’s 39th annual performance at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
From Monday, Aug. 11, to Saturday, Aug. 16, Snyder’s Attractions provides rides from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting. The food stand opens nightly at 5:30 p.m., with menus posted on the club’s Facebook page. The Carbloader Burger returns as a special offering on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Each evening features unique entertainment. Monday’s Talent Show, hosted by the Mercersburg Vibrancy Committee, offers cash prizes. Tuesday and Wednesday bring live music with Cazhmiere and Vertigo Vultures, respectively, performing from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday showcases local favorite New Country at the same times. On Friday, the Kenton Sitch Band plays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 10 p.m. The fair closes Saturday with The Flashbacks performing at 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., culminating in the 600 Club Drawing at 10 p.m., where winners need not be present.
Bingo is a staple, with $1 games Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at the front pavilion. Thursday’s Big Bucks Bingo starts early games at 7 p.m. Ride-all-night wristband pre-sale details are available on the club’s website and social media.
