It is the time of year to give thanks and many non-profits around the region are giving back to the community with free and discounted dinners to help others during this festive season.
Here are a list of locations and dates that are providing meals:
HAGERSTOWN – North Hagerstown High School is hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 25 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at 1200 Pennsylvania Ave. The event will also be including activities such as face painting, arts and crafts for the kids, and a movie with popcorn. The event and dinner are free and will be prepared and hosted by the school’s Culinary Technology Program and Hospitality Programs students.
The Hope Center of Hagerstown will be holding their Great Hagerstown Thanksgiving Feast on Nov. 27 at the Hagerstown Rescue Mission. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and all are welcome. There will be a buffet with traditional holiday options. The Rescue Mission is located at 125 N. Prospect St. For more information call 301-739-1165
WAYNESBORO – The Antrim Faith Baptist Church at 248 W. Second St., will be serving a home-cooked meal at 6 p.m., followed by a holiday church service at 7 p.m. on Nov. 25.
The Crispy Biscuit will hold meal pickup from 4 until 6 p.m. and dine in from 6 until 8 p.m. on Nov. 26 for their free community Thanksgiving dinner. The diner is located at 88 W. Main St. All meal ingredients have been donated by volunteers from the Waynesboro community. This will be the fourth year that the Crispy Biscuit has provided a hot meal and dessert for the people of Waynesboro.
On Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the Velvet Café at 145 West Third Street will be offering a traditional holiday dinner of turkey with stuffing, whipped potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, dinner roll and pumpkin pie. CHAMBERSBURG- Waffles and Shine at 109 S. Main St., offers a free take-out meal, prepared by Chef Matt Kerr, also known as “Chef Pappy”. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, yams, stuffing, green beans and pumpkin pie, will be available on Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. until noon or until the last meal has gone. This will be the first year that Chef Pappy has provided a meal to the Chambersburg community, but he is happy to be doing it and grateful to Waffles and Shine for their support.
The Salvation Army of Chambersburg are hosting their free Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 27 from noon until 2 p.m. at 159 Lincoln Way W.
The New Guiliford BIC Church located at 1575 Mont Alto Road will be offering a Thanksgiving meal in the gymnasium from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Nov. 27. Dine in only. Reservations can be made online at: Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner | New Guilford BIC
GREENCASTLE- Lizzy’s Restaurant is helping families with their Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway. Meal orders need to be ordered in advance and meals will be available for pick up on Nov. 26. A free carry-out Thanksgiving dinner is being provided by the Greencastle Presbyterian Church on Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. until noon. They are located 57 W. Baltimore St. Reservations can be made by calling 717-597-8333 ext. 3
