Local Rep. Reichard pushes workers’ comp reform

FRANKLIN COUNTY – Pennsylvania Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) has devoted considerable time recently to House Bill 1998, which he sponsored to reform workers’ compensation by eliminating the first 90-day treatment cap currently used by businesses.

The bill would provide an option for businesses to use a healthcare network that would open up more options for seeking additional care when recovering from a work-related injury. The bill would be an amendment to the 1915 Workers’ Compensation Act, and it is an amendment that Reichard feels is long overdue.

“We have seen time and time again the benefits of injured workers staying with the same doctors throughout their road to recovery,” he said while speaking before the House in Harrisburg. “Changing care providers can be extremely difficult.”

The new bill would help bridge the gap between providers and businesses and offer more options to the injured and business owners to improve the process.

Reichard kept a full schedule in November. Whether he was working as a server at the Waynesboro Applebee’s to help raise funds for the Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance or taking a stand on the floor of the capital to support laws such as Act 40 of 2025, a bill to protect the custody rights of deployed parents, the Franklin County representative stayed busy.

Recently, on Friday, Nov. 21, Reichard met with members of the community at the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce where he answered questions and discussed many issues that citizens of his hometown were facing. He has these occasional meetings which he calls, “Hanging with Chad.”

He also recently participated in a program where a local student spent the day as an intern with Reichard giving him a chance to get an up-close look at the inner workings of our local government. The student, Zach McCallum, is a freshman at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School.  McCallum has a great deal of interest in our nation’s political system and even has aspirations to enter politics himself.

Chad Reichard has not been all business the last few weeks. He has also found time to strengthen the community by attending the local events, such as last weekend’s tree lighting ceremonies in both Waynesboro and Washington Township. He also served as a judge for the Waynesboro Christmas Parade. You just never know where Chad Reichard might pop up.

On Dec. 11 from 4-6 p.m., Reichard is inviting the local community to join him for the “Holiday with Chad” event being held at his office at 1402 E. Main St. in Waynesboro. There will be light refreshments and an office tour. It will also be an opportunity to speak with Reichard and share stories, opinions and concerns regarding local and state issues.
