HAGERSTOWN – Community leaders and election experts will convene next week to demystify the path to public office for those eyeing roles on school boards, city councils or county commissions.
The panel discussion, titled “Thinking About Running for Office,” aims to equip attendees with essential knowledge on candidacy requirements, key deadlines and voter outreach strategies. Hosted by Leadership Washington County, the event draws on experiences from local officials who have navigated Maryland’s electoral process.
Speakers will cover filing procedures, regulatory rules and practical campaigning tips, including lessons from past successful runs. Participants can expect interactive Q&A sessions to address real-world challenges of serving in elected positions.
The free event runs from 8 to 10 a.m. Nov. 4 at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown Hospitality Center. A light breakfast will be served. It is open to members of Leadership Washington County Class #39, all LWC graduates, the Chamber of Commerce and Greater Hagerstown Alliance.
Organizers say the forum provides a low-pressure opportunity for residents to build confidence in pursuing leadership roles. Registration details are available through Leadership Washington County.
Tickets cost $21.05 through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1684899693339?aff=oddtdtcreator.
