WAYNESBORO – Representatives of Franklin County non-profit organizations recently spent a night together to celebrate and network at the annual “Celebrating Community Investment in Franklin County” event held at the Waynesboro Country Club.
The Oct. 9 evening event was sponsored by the Franklin County Community Foundation, which is the regional entity of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. The TFEC is the foundation that partners with non-profits to help them achieve their goals through donors to help strengthen local communities throughout the county.
This year, the TFEC helped with the following local profits in our area: Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Chambersburg Community Theater, Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance, Cumberland Valley School of Music, Downtown Chambersburg, Inc., Drew Michael Taylor Foundation, Franklin County Library System, Franklin County Fire Co., Girls on the Run Mid State Pennsylvania, Habitat For Humanity of Franklin County, LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council, Mercersburg Library Association, Pennsylvania Friends of Agricultural Foundation, Shippensburg Produce Outreach, South Central Community Action Programs, St. John’s United Church of Christ, Totem Pole Playhouse, Waynesboro YMCA, Waynesboro Community & Human Services, and the Waynesboro New Hope Shelter.

In all the TFEC and Franklin County organization helped these important groups receive a total of $91,277 in grants. Many of these organizations collaborate closely with local schools, community action programs, and art and literature groups that help educate and strengthen the ties of local communities. All of the money donated to these non-profit groups came from within the local community by members and businesses.
The event on Thursday night was not just to celebrate the donations but also a chance for local non-profit members to come together and network. These non-profit organizations share similar mission goals, and collaborations would only help to strengthen Franklin County. There were food and drinks provided by the Waynesboro Country Club as well as a spinning wheel raffling game that was a big hit with the guests.
The ceremony itself was a chance for every non-profit member to come up and share some of their stories and upcoming programs. Almost all of these community leaders are volunteers, as are most of their teams, and their passion to help others and offer programs to educate and assist was felt throughout the dining hall.
