WAYNESBORO, Pa. – “What Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library is doing for the Waynesboro community and beyond” was shared with state Bureau of Library Development Director Heather Sharpe and State Librarian Sue Banks when they visited the library recently. “We were one of only 30 Commonwealth libraries chosen for a visit,” added Julie Diaz, executive director of the library.
Diaz also discussed the library’s commitment to the PA Forward initiative, highlighting a recent donation from the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation of hiking and birdwatching gear for the Walking Librarian program. Diaz spoke about the library’s participation in the Office of Commonwealth Library’s Summer Reading Showcase. The local library’s program, Archeology in Waynesboro, served as a spotlight to inform other libraries of opportunities for both summer reading and the PA Forward initiative, she said.
Home to STEM programming for children, teens and adults, the Makerspace was an integral part of the library tour as well. Meg Piavis, the Makerspace technician, spoke with Sharpe and Banks about the variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education programs that the library hosts, and the science outreach that the library provides to the community.
