The Rouzerville Fish and Game Association hosted its annual Kids Fishing Rodeo at Red Run Park, continuing a tradition that has spanned roughly 50 years. More than 60 young anglers registered for this year’s event, which saw a strong turnout thanks to pleasant spring weather.
Participants, ranging in age from 3 to 15, were required to register before casting their lines. Each child was permitted to keep up to five fish, with catch-and-release not allowed at the event. Organizers emphasized bait fishing only, with spinner and lure setups prohibited to maintain a fair competition among all skill levels.
Adult help was limited to baiting hooks, untangling lines and landing fish for any child under the age of 5. Volunteers and members of the association monitored the rodeo, ensuring everyone followed the rules and enjoyed the day of outdoor fun.
The mild temperatures made for an enjoyable morning, a welcome change from last year’s frigid event. Organizers said the annual rodeo continues to instill a love of fishing and outdoor recreation in local youth while honoring the association’s decades-long tradition of family-friendly fun.
