CHAMBERSBURG – A juvenile is in custody and charged with attempted homicide after a stabbing Monday morning at Chambersburg Area Middle School South, police said.
Officers responded to the East McKinley Street school at about 7:46 a.m. for a reported assault involving two students, according to the Chambersburg Police Department.
Police said one student stabbed another during morning drop-off. A district officer detained the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident.
The injured student was transported to WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
School officials said the building was briefly placed under a shelter-in-place order, which was lifted after police confirmed there was no ongoing threat. Classes continued with additional counselors on hand to support students.
The suspect is being held in a juvenile detention facility and faces charges of criminal attempt to commit homicide and aggravated assault, police said.
